Mental and Emotional Wellness

Mental wellness is linked to mental health, but we may not be fully mentally well even in the absence of mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. Many of the things that impact physical wellness, like eating, sleep, and stress, also impact mental wellness. Not only that, but circumstances and life experiences can affect your mental health.

It is vital to intentionally develop mental wellness, even when you are not stressed or impacted by adverse mental health. Developing and practicing positive coping strategies when you are feeling well mentally will help you manage the next bout of stress.

We encourage you to sign up for Homewood Health and make use of their resources, which are available to all NOSM University learners.

Emotional wellness goes hand-in-hand with mental wellness. You can build and maintain emotional wellness by becoming aware of your emotions and managing strong emotional reactions, such as stress, sadness, anger, etc. Maintaining emotional wellness will allow you to comprehend and manage your own emotions, and can help you understand the emotions of others.
